Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos, party island extraordinaire of the Cyclades, for both teams. Our final stop on the cruise. If you notice, I really have not talked too much about cruising life in my blog. The posts are lengthy enough, but the cruise part was really a lot of fun. Fun with the family, fun having our friends and their son around. Fun for the kids, as they were able to run rampant on a boat with their friend, as well as a bunch of other kids. So kids and parents both got a break.
Our last stop was Mykonos. As we already had our vow of no more Tournamis for the trip, we had decided, no Mykonos tours, nothing planned. Just get a taxi, go to the beach. Lounge. Relax from our strenuous efforts on the cruise (not). So we got off the boat (ok, ship, but I'm going to call it a boat anyways), went to the central square of Mykonos (think about 50 meters a side), and waited. And waited. For a taxi, which after a while we thought was the name of Greek myth. Taxis. It was hot, and did I mention we waited? Finally we got one of the ten taxis on the island, and made it out to a great family beach. A great family beach, but still great sightseeing for all. I can't include all the pictures of the great sightseeing on a family blog, but those who know me, track me down when I get back home.
It was a nice day. We lounged. I lounged. As such, me lounging:
We took the Mykonos not so rapid transit system public bus back to town, much better than the mythical taxis (the cruise folks did not even mention it existed) back to Mykonos town, which is, as one would expect, an amazingly scenic warren of winding whitewashes streets. We made our way back to the harbor, where we were able to catch this photo of a four foot high stork window shopping. Odd.
Not sure where it kept it's wallet, but it was perfectly happy strolling down the street. And this photo makes this guy (or gal) look small. This was one big bird. And with this as one of our last sights of Greece, it was back to the boat for a great night (we celebrated my daughters b-day, and she had a great time),and off to "disembark" in Athens…
That's a pelican!! There are a few living on the island. However, you are correct about the window shopping. He also wants to enter stores on occasion, so he must at least have a credit card. That aside, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit in Mykonos.
